Mrs. Thigpen
Mrs. Thigpen graduated from Grambling State University with a degree in Hospitality Management. She always had a desire to teach, but changed her major for unknown reasons. Upon graduation, she came home to Chicago and worked in the hospitality field for one year. Although, she enjoyed the customer service piece, she was unfulfilled and unchallenged. She went back to Roosevelt University to pursue her Masters in Education. She worked as a 2nd and 3rd grade teacher at Hearst Elementary School for 5 years. During this time she developed a love of mathematics and decided to pursue her math endorsement. While working towards the endorsement, she worked in various leadership roles which gave her insight about the possibility of an administrative position. After completing her math endorsement at The University of Chicago, she was offered a math coordinator position at Nicholson Elementary School. This position allotted her the opportunity to step out of the classroom and work in the capacity of leadership. She then went back to Loyola and pursued her Type 75 certificate. As a result of her hard work and determination she was offered the Assistant Principal position at Nicholson Elementary School. She has has been at Nicholson for the past 8 years and is very excited about the evolution of the school and the years ahead.
